tank storage company has launched a market consultation for ammonia storage at its Vopak Energy Park Antwerp site in to gauge industry interest and customer demand.

The company is currently conducting a pre-FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) study, scheduled for completion by late 2024, with operations projected to commence by 2029, contingent on sufficient market interest and a final investment decision.

Royal Vopak acquired the former refinery site in 2023 and has since been in discussions with the Port of Antwerp Bruges about establishing a green energy hub.

According to Vopak, the extensive site and its strategic connectivity to Northwest create ample potential for developing large-scale facilities in support of the chemical and hydrogen sectors, with a focus on hydrogen carriers, ammonia storage, and cracking .

Further signaling the site's role in sustainable development, AP Moller Holding recently announced plans to build its first fossil-free plastics production plant at the Vopak Energy Park Antwerp by the end of September.
