Swiss renewable energy producer Axpo Holding AG has entered into agreements to supply Austrian polyolefins producer Borealis AG with over 900 GWh of wind power for its operations in Belgium. The two power purchase agreements (PPAs) will extend until the end of 2030 and the end of 2035, respectively, with power deliveries set to commence in 2026.
The electricity supplied will come from Vleemo nv, a Flemish energy company specializing in wind power generation, which operates wind turbines along the river Scheldt in the port of Antwerp.
Through these PPAs, Borealis aims to reduce its Scope 2 emissions by approximately 155,000 tonnes over a decade, aligning with its commitment to source 100% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030.
These latest contracts complement a series of long-term off-take agreements Borealis has established with Axpo over the past four years, including previous deals in Belgium, Sweden, and Finland. The most recent agreement, signed in February, covers the procurement of 125 GWh of onshore wind power for Borealis' operations in Belgium and Sweden.
