Dhara Vyas has been appointed chief executive of Energy UK, the leading industry body for the country's energy sector, taking over from Emma Pinchbeck, who recently announced her departure to head the Climate Change Committee.
Vyas has served as Energy UK's deputy chief executive since November 2022 and joined the group as director of advocacy in 2021, following her work at Citizens Advice, where she led initiatives on net zero and the future energy market.
Reflecting on her new role, Vyas expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I am delighted to have this opportunity to lead Energy UK through what will continue to be a defining time for the sector and its role in helping fulfil the country's ambitions around clean energy.” She added that she looks forward to working with the talented team at Energy UK and building on collaborative industry efforts.
Energy UK chair David Laws welcomed the appointment, noting Vyas's deep expertise and integrity. “Dhara has all of the knowledge, skills, passion and integrity that our Board looks for in its chief executive, and we are very excited that she has agreed to take on this role,” he said, acknowledging the leadership of outgoing chief Emma Pinchbeck.
Laws expressed confidence that Vyas's capabilities in policy, communication, and leadership would sustain the organization's momentum amid key shifts in the energy landscape, particularly with a new government in place.
In addition to her work in consumer advocacy, Vyas has experience across various policy areas, including local government and environmental issues, and serves as a trustee for the think tank Green Alliance.
Her new role will see her represent Energy UK's members, who generate and deliver energy to households and businesses nationwide, with a focus on supporting the energy transition and decarbonization efforts to meet the UK's clean energy goals.
