The UAE has signed a memorandum with the Indian state of Rajasthan to explore the development of a 60-GW renewable energy project, involving solar, wind, and hybrid installations in Rajasthan's western district.
The project will be implemented by a UAE-appointed developer in coordination with relevant Indian authorities, as announced by the UAE Ministry of Investment.
The memorandum was signed by UAE Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi and Rajasthan's Principal Secretary of Industries Shri Ajitabh Sharma.
This agreement follows broader investment cooperation between the UAE and India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, with the aim of establishing long-term renewable energy capacity to meet Rajasthan's critical energy needs. The Rajasthan government has estimated the project's investment at INR 3 trillion (USD 35.7 billion).
The initiative aligns with Rajasthan's goals to reduce carbon intensity by 45% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2070. Leveraging Rajasthan's favorable climate and vast landmass, the project is expected to serve as a testing ground for innovative clean energy technologies.
