Brazil's National Electric System Operator (ONS) announced that the country has boosted the capacity for transferring wind and solar power from the Northeast to the Southeast/Central-West and North subsystems.
The transmission limit has increased from 11,600 MW to 13,000 MW for the Northeast-Southeast/Central-West direction, while the Northeast-North export capacity has risen from 4,800 MW to 6,200 MW.
This increase follows the commissioning of a new substation and three 500-kV transmission lines within the National Interconnected System (SIN). Further expansion is expected when a new 500-kV line in Bahia begins operations at the end of October, increasing capacity to 13,800 MW.
These upgrades will enhance the distribution of renewable energy, improving grid stability and the integration of clean energy into Brazil's power system.
