The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a loan of up to €32 million to finance the construction of a 100MW solar power plant in Croatia.
The loan is granted to Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP), the country's national energy company, to support the construction and operation of the solar farm, which aligns with HEP's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
Grzegorz Zielinski, EBRD's Head of Energy Europe, expressed the bank's commitment to advancing Croatia's renewable energy goals, stating, “We are very proud to support HEP, Croatian national power utility, in advancing its renewable energy investments in Croatia. This project, set to become the largest solar power plant in HEP's renewable energy portfolio, underscores the pivotal role of renewables as a sustainable pathway for replacing fossil fuels.”
The Korlat solar power plant will play a significant role in helping Croatia meet its renewable energy targets by 2030. This investment marks a continuation of HEP's decarbonisation agenda, which includes electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as district heating and gas distribution services. HEP is fully owned by the Republic of Croatia.
