German energy company LEAG announced on Friday the commencement of drilling works to install power cables for a 29-MWp floating solar park on Cottbuser Ostsee lake in Brandenburg.
The project involves laying two pipes beneath the lakebed over a distance of 420 meters, which will contain a 30-kV medium-voltage cable for grid connection and a fiber optic cable for communication. This cable route will extend an additional 2,000 meters to a 110-kV substation located in Dissenchen.
LEAG's floating solar park has reached its final configuration, having already installed 51,000 solar modules, 88 inverters, and eight transformer stations. Covering an area of 16 hectares, the facility will be situated on Cottbuser Ostsee, Germany's largest artificial lake, created from a former open-cast lignite mine.
Once operational, the solar park is expected to supply electricity to over 8,000 households.
