Ohmium International has signed a term sheet with to collaborate on the development of electrolysers for a 300MW floating offshore hydrogen and ammonia synthesis project. The power-to-X project, located off the coast of Southern , aims to establish an industrial-scale facility for the production of and ammonia using proven floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) systems.

The PEM electrolysers, based on Ohmium's technology, will be installed on SwitcH2's 268-meter FPSO vessel. SwitcH2, a project development company co-owned by BW Offshore and Dutch Oceans Capital, focuses on delivering next-generation floating production systems for green hydrogen and ammonia production.

Once operational, the facility will have the capacity to produce up to 55,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and nearly 300,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, sufficient to power several ocean-going vessels for an entire year. The 300MW electrolysers will utilize and wind power generated nearshore, as well as treated seawater, to produce green hydrogen. This hydrogen will then be converted into green ammonia on board the FPSO, which will be offloaded for transport to industrial customers.

Supported by the Dutch government and certified in principle by Norwegian certification agency DNV, the project expects to begin green ammonia production by 2029.

SwitcH2's director and co-founder, Bob Rietveldt, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Ohmium's compact, hyper modular PEM electrolysers are ideally suited for the space-constrained FPSO setting. Their product delivers high efficiency, and the comprehensive, standardized design enables flexible and rapid installation, at scale.”

Ohmium's chief executive, , added, “We are thrilled to be part of this cutting-edge and transformative project. The market for green ammonia is poised to grow exponentially in the coming decades, especially as a source of clean fuel for the global shipping industry, and Ohmium is looking forward to collaborating with SwitcH2 in helping address that need.”
