UK energy storage firm Root-Power has submitted planning applications for six battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across the country, totaling a combined capacity of 315 MW.
The proposed sites are situated in North Yorkshire, Devon, Derbyshire, Bedfordshire, Glamorgan, and Gloucestershire.
The largest project is planned for Camblesforth in Selby, North Yorkshire, where it aims to deliver 200 MWh of capacity, sufficient to power approximately 200,000 homes.
This facility is strategically located near a grid connection point adjacent to the Drax Power Station.
Root-Power aims to position itself as one of the largest owner-operators of energy storage systems in the UK. The company has already commenced construction on an 11-MW/22-MWh BESS project in Coryton, which is expected to come online in the first quarter of next year. This site will be developed by e-STORAGE, the energy storage division of Canadian Solar Inc.
