Lithuanian utility Ignitis Group has confirmed plans to compete in the country's re-launched 700-MW offshore wind tender, which is set to begin on November 18, 2024.
As part of its strategy, Ignitis is seeking a minority partner with up to 49% participation to join its bid but is ready to proceed independently if necessary.
This marks Lithuania's second attempt at auctioning the development of an offshore wind park in the Baltic Sea, following the first auction's failure to attract enough proposals—where Ignitis was the only bidder.
The winner of the new tender is expected to be announced by the end of April 2024.
The offshore wind park, to be situated around 30 kilometers off the coast, is expected to generate 3 TWh of electricity annually.
This project would be instrumental in helping Ignitis achieve its ambitious goal of increasing its green energy capacity to 4-5 GW by 2030.
