Fugro has been awarded a contract to conduct site investigations for the Rhein-Main-Link underground cable project, designed to transport electricity from North Sea offshore wind farms to mainland Germany. The contract includes consultancy services and was granted by ARGE R-M-L, a consortium formed by Arcadis and ILF Beratende Ingenieure.
The proposed 600-kilometer cable will deliver power from offshore wind farms in the North Sea to Germany's Rhein-Main metropolitan region. Fugro's responsibilities will encompass addressing the geographical, sociological, and technical challenges associated with the cable route to optimize performance and minimize environmental impact.
Fugro will offer a comprehensive range of consultancy services, including project management, route planning support, environmental permitting, geotechnical campaign planning, evaluation and modeling, hydrogeological consulting, and soil protection. The company's services will focus on two of the ten planning approval sections along the 600-kilometer route, providing critical insights and geo-data necessary for the routing and design of the 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line.
