Seatrium Wins Contract to Supply Offshore Substations for Empire Wind Offshore Wind Farms

Seatrium Limited, a subsidiary of Marine Platforms (SMOP), has recently won a significant contract to supply two offshore substations for the Empire Wind 1 and Empire offshore wind farms located south of Long Island, east of the Rockaways. The contract, worth S$500 million (approximately USD 375 million), was awarded by Empire Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Equinor and BP.

The scope of the project includes engineering, procurement, construction, offshore hook-up, and commissioning of two OSS platforms for the offshore wind farms. Seatrium will start construction works on the 810 MW Empire Wind 1 platform and the 1,260 MW Empire Wind 2 platform in Q4 2023 and H2 2024, respectively, at its Singapore and Indonesia yards.

The recent contract win follows the successful completion of the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract, which SMOP secured in 2022. As part of the project, the company is also constructing a installation vessel (WTIV) jointly designed with customer Maersk Supply Service. The newbuild is scheduled for completion in 2025 and will feature Steerprop's propulsion package.

The Empire Wind project is an important milestone for Seatrium, which has been expanding its presence in the renewable energy sector. The company has been leveraging its expertise in offshore platforms to support the development of offshore wind farms worldwide. The company's efforts have resulted in a growing portfolio of projects, including the Changfang and Xidao wind farm projects in Taiwan.

The Empire Wind project is also a significant step towards achieving the ' clean energy goals. The two offshore wind farms will have a combined capacity of 2,070 MW, providing clean and renewable energy to more than one million homes in New York.
