Andritz Selected for E.ON Hydrogen’s 20-MW Electrolysis Project in Germany

Austrian plant engineering group Andritz AG has been appointed by E.ON to conduct an engineering for a 20-MW electrolysis project in the Rhine-Ruhr region of southwestern . This initiative is part of E.ON SE's broader strategy to meet the increasing demand for sustainable energy.

The contract includes feasibility and safety studies encompassing various aspects of the project, such as hydrogen production, compression, storage, and trailer loading bays. Andritz is expected to complete the study by the end of this year.

The proposed electrolyser will be situated at the harbour in Essen and is designed to produce up to 2,300 tonnes of hydrogen annually using sources. The hydrogen generated will be transported to end customers in the Rhine-Ruhr area, primarily serving the transportation sector in the harbour vicinity. E.ON anticipates beginning production at the site in 2027.

E.ON announced its plans for the project in September, emphasizing its commitment to addressing the rising demand for sustainable energy solutions in the region.
