Brazil expanded its renewable energy capacity by 609.03 MW in September, primarily driven by solar and wind installations, according to data from the nation's power regulator, Aneel.
Of this new capacity, solar farms made the largest contribution, with 11 newly connected facilities adding 491.83 MW to the grid. Wind energy also saw growth, with 10 parks contributing 117.20 MW.
The total power capacity added in September reached 711.33 MW, which also included 102.30 MW from thermal power plants.
Over the first nine months of 2024, Brazil's electricity system grew by 7.8 GW, with solar and wind accounting for around 90% of the additions.
As of October 1, Brazil's total installed power generation capacity stood at 205,722.5 MW, with renewable energy sources making up 84.74% of the total.
