Equinor and Polenergia have contracted a consortium of Ramboll and Projmors to provide consulting services for design work and the acquisition of construction permits for the 1,560 MW Bałtyk 1 offshore wind farm. Located approximately 81 kilometers from the Polish coast, Bałtyk 1 represents a significant expansion in Poland's offshore wind capacity.
The contract encompasses the entire Bałtyk 1 project, advancing it to ready-to-build status. Jerzy Zań, chief executive of Polenergia, emphasized the project's potential to double the company's offshore generating capacity and supply clean energy to an additional 2 million households. He highlighted that Bałtyk 1 is preparing for an auction scheduled for 2025, underlining the vast renewable energy potential of the Polish Baltic Sea.
The project has already secured necessary permits for cable installation and maintenance in the offshore segment, along with a grid connection agreement with the transmission system operator. Electricity generated by the project will be routed to a connection point at the Krzemienica substation, which is currently under construction.
Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, country manager of Equinor Poland, noted that the collaboration with the consortium leverages both global expertise and Polish specialization, contributing positively to the economy. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the offshore development schedule to build industry competence and competitiveness.
The planned onshore cable line will partially align with the infrastructure corridors designated for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects. Collectively, these three wind farms are expected to have a total capacity of up to 3,000 MW, with initial energy generation from Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 anticipated by 2027.
