Engineering firm Kent has signed a contract to provide a concept design study for a high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) substation platform for the RWE-led Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm, located off the coast of Suffolk and Essex, England.

The Five Estuaries project is an extension of the Galloper Wind Farm, which has a capacity of 353MW and became fully operational in March 2018. The new wind farm, planned to be operational by 2031, is situated around 37 kilometers offshore. RWE is leading the development, construction, and operation of the project, alongside several shareholders.

Kent will be responsible for the concept design of the offshore substation topside and the assessment of the supporting foundation structure. This platform is a key component for transmitting from the wind turbines to the grid.

Cerianne Cummings, Kent's Head of Offshore Wind, expressed the company's dedication to the project, stating, “We are extremely proud to be part of this journey with RWE and continue to support the growth of the offshore wind sector in the UK.”

This contract further solidifies Kent's role in the UK's offshore wind industry and aligns with its commitment to supporting the UK's targets. The aims to power all homes with offshore wind energy within the next decade.
