e-STORAGE, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc, has announced a significant contract to deliver a 98-MW/312-MWh direct current battery energy storage system (BESS) for a project in Chile's Tarapaca region.
The client, AustrianSolar Chile Cuatro SpA (ASC4), is part of a consortium that includes Japan's Sojitz Corporation and Shikoku Electric Power Co Inc. This BESS will be utilized in the Huatacondo project, which is co-located with the S4 solar farm, previously known as Huatacondo, and has been operational since 2019.
As part of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, e-STORAGE will implement its SolBank 3.0 energy storage solution and oversee all civil, mechanical, and electrical infrastructure for the project. Canadian Solar highlighted that the SolBank 3.0 is designed to offer high performance, safety, and durability in a variety of environmental conditions, ensuring reliable operation in challenging climates such as those found in the Andean region.
Construction for the Huatacondo project is slated to commence in the first quarter of 2025. “The batteries will be co-located with the S4 solar farm,” Canadian Solar stated.
