Micropower Energy has inaugurated a 1.75-MWp solar power generation and 1,184-MWh energy storage microgrid at Santa Paula Farm in Bahia state, Brazil, marking the largest microgrid system of its kind in the country.
Located in the municipality of Barreiras, this hybrid renewable energy project is expected to meet up to 50% of the farm's energy demand while offsetting more than 970 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
The solar plant spans 23,000 square meters (247,569 square feet) and works alongside an existing hydropower plant, creating a hybrid system managed by Micropower's EMS Smart Agro software.
This software integrates the two renewable power sources to optimize energy efficiency and ensure reliable supply for the farm.
The microgrid project was made possible through a partnership with Irriga Cerrado, a Bauer do Brasil reseller, which specializes in irrigation solutions for remote agricultural regions.
Micropower Energy, a joint venture formed in 2017 by Siemens, Equinor, and Comerc Energia, continues to focus on delivering renewable energy solutions throughout Brazil.
