INEOS Inovyn has taken a significant step towards sustainability by investing in the HELIOS solar project, which consists of 90,000 panels in Jemeppe-sur-Sambre, Belgium. The solar farm is expected to generate over 57,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually to power the INEOS Inovyn site from 2024 onwards. The electricity will be supplied through an exclusive power purchase agreement.
This investment is part of INEOS Inovyn's larger plan to reduce CO₂ emissions by over 30% across all its activities by 2030 and to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. HELIOS will replace around 10% of the electricity requirement at Jemeppe, saving over 14,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Julien De Meersman, Energy Manager of the INEOS Inovyn site in Jemeppe-sur-Sambre, said, “We are proud to be a part of this sustainable initiative. HELIOS will help us move towards our goal of reducing our carbon footprint and creating a more sustainable future. It's exciting to think about the possibilities this investment will bring.”
Philippe Taranti, Site Director at INEOS Inovyn in Jemeppe, emphasized that their roadmap to net zero goes beyond the use of renewable energy. They are also improving their processes, electrifying their systems, and replacing old equipment with energy-efficient alternatives. Taranti added, “Our commitment to sustainability is unwavering. We believe that it is our responsibility to minimize our impact on the environment, and we are taking all the necessary steps to achieve this goal.”
The project's impact on the environment is significant, and it is a clear indication that companies can achieve their business objectives while remaining committed to sustainability. The investment in the HELIOS solar project demonstrates INEOS Inovyn's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, and it is a positive step towards achieving net-zero emissions.
