India has announced a tender for the supply of 6,000 MW of electricity from renewable energy power projects with storage solutions to ensure peak-hour supply.
The tender, issued by state-run SJVN, aims to support the country's ambitious goal of adding 35 gigawatts (GW) of solar and wind energy capacity by March 2025, part of India's broader target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil power capacity.
The tender calls for power from an inter-state transmission system that spans across the country. India has already added 10 GW of renewable energy capacity from April to August 2024, bringing its total capacity to 153 GW.
Government officials have also indicated that the country expects significant growth in battery-linked storage projects to enhance grid stability and energy reliability.
