Rezolv Energy has signed a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Italy's A2A for renewable electricity from the Vifor wind farm in Romania. This agreement covers 150GWh per year, contributing to a total of 460GWh from six VPPAs signed by Rezolv since June.
Once completed, Vifor will become one of Europe's largest onshore wind farms. The project is located near the Carpathian Mountains and benefits from high wind yields. The first phase will install 192MW of capacity, with an expansion to 461MW in the second phase. Construction is expected to finish within 18 months, bringing the wind farm online by late 2025.
Alastair Hammond, CEO of Rezolv Energy, commented on the growing importance of VPPAs in South Eastern Europe, stating, “Virtual Power Purchase Agreements are still a relatively new concept in South Eastern Europe but they are becoming an increasingly important facilitator of the energy transition.”
Jaroslava Korpanec, Actis Partner and Head of Central and Eastern Europe Energy Infrastructure, praised the progress of the Vifor project, noting, “Once again, this demonstrates the strong demand for clean, renewable energy that exists in the C&I market as businesses look to decarbonise and meet their net zero targets.”
Rezolv Energy, launched 18 months ago by Actis, now has over 2GW of clean energy projects under development across South Eastern Europe. The Vifor wind farm will play a key role in replacing fossil fuel-based energy in Romania, supporting the country's climate targets.
