Luxcara, a German clean energy asset manager, has contracted Norwegian offshore wind transport and installation firm Havfram for the Waterkant offshore wind project, a 270 MW development in the German North Sea.
The agreement includes vessel charters for the transport and installation of 16 wind turbines, according to a joint announcement by the companies.
Luxcara plans to utilize 18.5-MW turbines from Chinese manufacturer Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Ltd for the project. The installation is scheduled to take place in the spring of 2028, with Havfram employing one of its advanced wind turbine installation vessels (WTIV), which are currently under construction.
Havfram Wind CEO Even Larsen stated that the agreement strengthens the company's contract portfolio and backlog. With two WTIVs expected to be delivered in the second half of 2025, Havfram is positioned to support the evolving offshore wind industry, Larsen said.
Luxcara secured the rights to build the 270-MW-plus wind farm at site N-6.7 in August 2023 through its bidding entity, Waterkant Energy GmbH.
Meanwhile, German wind turbine manufacturers are advocating for fair competition, raising concerns over practices by Chinese competitors in the European market.
