Spanish gas infrastructure company SA has successfully blended into the gas grid on the island of Mallorca, marking a significant milestone as the first instance of such integration in .

The project involved the construction of a hydrogen reception station, a dedicated 3.2-kilometre (1.99 miles) hydrogen pipeline, and a blending facility to facilitate the injection of hydrogen into the existing gas network.

The hydrogen is sourced from the Lloseta solar-powered green hydrogen plant, which was completed in March 2022. Redexis invested €3.5 million (approximately $3.89 million) in the project, which is part of the larger Green Hysland decarbonization initiative in Mallorca, funded by the through the .

This project not only demonstrates the feasibility of integrating green hydrogen into the gas grid but also establishes a foundation for future developments in energy infrastructure.

Redexis envisions that the success of this initiative could serve as a model for similar projects in other regions across Spain.
