Engie has finalized a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with Atlas Copco Airpower to off-take energy from the 325MW C-Power wind farm off the Belgian coast. This agreement allows Atlas Copco to partially power its smart factory in Wilrijk with renewable energy sourced from the North Sea.
Engie manages part of the energy produced by the offshore wind farm and distributes it to various companies operating in Belgium, including Atlas Copco.
Wouter Ceulemans, president of the airtec division at Atlas Copco Airpower, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability. He stated, “Atlas Copco Group wants to contribute to the sustainable energy transition. With this subscription, we are taking another step towards achieving our sustainability goals, reducing emissions from our own operations by 46% by 2030.”
Vincent Verbeke, chief executive of Engie Belgium, noted the broader implications of the agreement. He remarked, “As the world's largest developer of green PPAs, Engie wants to help its clients reduce the carbon footprint of their operations. Thanks to this agreement, the first PPA for Atlas Copco, the company will be able to save 9,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.”
