Vinod Philip has succeeded Jochen Eickholt as the new chief executive of Siemens Gamesa, effective today. Under Philip's leadership, the wind power division will be integrated into Siemens Energy's management structure.
Eickholt had informed the Siemens Gamesa Board of Directors in May that he would step down from his position as chief executive by mutual agreement on July 31, 2024, and would oversee the transition until September 30.
Joe Kaeser, Supervisory Board chairman of Siemens Energy and Daimler Truck, acknowledged the challenges faced by the wind industry, particularly Siemens Gamesa, due to various factors, some of which he described as “clearly home-made.” He emphasized that the efforts to address these issues have been costly and stressed the importance of avoiding further mistakes.
Kaeser commended Eickholt for taking significant steps to stabilize Siemens Gamesa, noting that he had “addressed and stabilized the processes and procedures and initiated long overdue changes.” Kaeser expressed confidence that these actions would help Siemens Gamesa achieve profitability by 2026.
With these foundations in place, Kaeser stated that Philip has been tasked by the board to “design and develop the next generation of renewable energy within Siemens Energy.” He highlighted Philip's previous success in similar roles, such as his work with gas turbines, noting that Philip knows how to build a strong team based on values and a high-performance culture.
Kaeser extended his best wishes to both Eickholt and Philip, expressing gratitude for Eickholt's contributions and confidence in Philip's ability to lead Siemens Gamesa successfully.
Eickholt reflected on his tenure, stating that it had been a privilege to be part of the Siemens family. Philip expressed his commitment to building on the foundation laid by Eickholt and working closely with Siemens Gamesa colleagues to turn around the wind power business.
