Ark Energy, a subsidiary of Korea Zinc Co Ltd, has announced the cancellation of its 340-megawatt (MW) wind farm project in New South Wales, Australia, due to a change of mind among certain landowners.
In a project update released on Friday, Ark Energy stated it has withdrawn its development application and will not proceed with the Doughboy wind farm as initially proposed. Despite this, the company noted that the project could be revisited with a revised design in the future, given the site's favorable conditions for wind energy generation.
The Doughboy wind farm was planned to be situated approximately 50 kilometers east of Armidale within the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
The project was set to feature up to 55 turbines and a co-located battery energy storage system with a capacity of up to 100 MW/400 MWh. The estimated investment for the project was around AUD 600 million (USD 393.4 million/EUR 362.3 million).
Should Ark Energy decide to pursue a revised version of the project, it will need to prepare a new scoping report and undergo the permitting process again.
