Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has started operations of the first turbines at its 30GW Khavda project in Gujarat, India. The developer has brought 250MW of wind capacity online at the site, bringing the total operational capacity at the Khavda hub to 2.3GW. The completed project will comprise 4GW of wind and 26GW of solar capacity.
The new turbines strengthen AGEL's position in India, which now has the largest operational renewable energy portfolio in the country at 11.1GW. The Khavda site benefits from some of the best wind resources in India, with wind speeds of approximately 8 meters per second, making it an optimal location for wind energy.
The Khavda plant is equipped with some of the world's largest and most powerful onshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5.2MW. These turbines, featuring a rotor diameter of 160 meters and a tip height of 200 meters, are built using German technology at AGEL's integrated manufacturing hub near the Mundra port.
The energy generated from the Khavda plant is expected to power 16.1 million homes annually.
