Nhoa Energy, the energy storage division of Nhoa Group, has commenced the installation of a 50-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Italy for independent power producer ERG SpA.
The facility will be integrated with ERG's Vicari wind park, located in the southern province of Palermo. Nhoa Energy will serve as the construction contractor and will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the BESS under a five-year agreement.
The battery storage system will be situated in the commune of Vicari on the island of Sicily. It is designed to enhance the efficiency of the existing wind farm and will be equipped with Nhoa Energy's technology, adhering to the grid regulation standards set by Italy's transmission system operator, Terna.
Under the Fit-for-55 EU framework, Italy has set a target of 71 GWh of new grid-scale battery storage by 2030. In October of the previous year, Nhoa Energy was selected in Italy's 2024 Capacity Market auction to install a 39-MWh battery at an existing combined cycle gas plant in central Italy.
