Coriolis Energy and ESB Plan 80MW Wind Farm in North Wales

and ESB are preparing a planning application for an 80MW wind farm project in north . The proposed Foel Fach wind farm, located near Bala in Gwynedd, will consist of 11 turbines with tip heights of up to 220 meters, delivering approximately 79.2MW of capacity based on 7.2MW units.

The developers plan to submit a permit application to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales in 2025. The project includes a community benefit fund of £8000 per megawatt and explores options for locally-shared ownership.

Early-stage assessments suggest the site is suitable for a wind farm, according to Clare Dance, Foel Fach project development manager. “At a time when climate change and the need for more renewable energy generation is clear, Foel Fach would make a significant contribution to achieving the Welsh government's net zero targets,” Dance said. She also highlighted plans to improve habitats on the site to support .

A public consultation will be held in the coming months to engage with residents and provide more information about the project. Discussions will also begin with local groups regarding the community fund and with companies interested in contract and job opportunities. The developers are exploring a shared ownership model, allowing local residents to own a share in the wind farm and receive savings on their electricity bills.

The Foel Fach project will join the developer partnership's 130MW Y Bryn wind farm, which is currently under review by planning officials.
