Boskalis to Transport Offshore Wind Components to Orsted’s Taiwan Project

Dutch marine services provider Boskalis NV said on Monday it will transport 66 suction bucket jacket foundations and one substation (OSS) to 's 2b and 4 offshore wind farm in , beginning in late 2024.

The company will utilize four of its semi-submersible heavy transport vessels – Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Mighty Servant 3, and Transshelf – for the transportation of these components from Singapore/Batam and the port of Taichung to the offshore wind farm in the Taiwan Strait.

“In recent years, cargoes have increasingly been destined for the realization of offshore wind farms, such as monopiles, jacket foundations as well as kilometers of power cable that transport the generated power at sea to the mainland,” Boskalis said.

Boskalis has equipped the Transshelf with three modular cable carousels to facilitate the transportation of power cables. These will be temporarily removed to accommodate the OSS topside for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 project.

The Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farm, developed by Danish energy company Orsted, aims to bolster Taiwan's renewable energy capacity.
