Strata Clean Energy has finalized a 20-year tolling agreement with Arizona Public Service (APS) for its Justice Energy Storage project, marking a significant step in bolstering Arizona's energy infrastructure with renewable solutions.
Located near Skyline Regional Park in Phoenix, Arizona, the Justice Energy Storage project boasts a capacity of 150 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 600 megawatt-hours (MWh). Once operational in April 2026, it is projected to provide enough stored energy to sustain approximately 24,000 homes over a four-hour period.
“This agreement underscores our commitment to advancing battery energy storage solutions,” stated Josh Rogol, President of Strata Clean Energy. “We are confident that our extensive pipeline of clean energy projects and our dedicated team in Scottsdale uniquely position us to support Arizona in achieving its clean-energy objectives.”
APS, Arizona's largest electric company, views projects like Justice Energy Storage as pivotal in meeting the state's growing energy demands with a reliable, affordable, and clean energy mix.
“APS is strategically planning to meet Arizona's rising energy needs by diversifying our resource portfolio,” noted Brian Cole, Vice President of Resource Management at APS. “Justice Energy Storage will enhance our ability to provide electricity reliably, especially during peak demand periods such as summer.”
Under the terms of the tolling agreement, APS will manage the charging and discharging of the system as required to meet energy demands, while Strata will ensure the system's capacity, reliability, and efficiency throughout the agreement period.
The Justice Energy Storage project was selected as part of APS's All-Source Request for Proposal (RFP) in June 2023, which aimed to procure approximately 1 gigawatt (GW) of resources, including 700MW of renewable energy, to align with its Integrated Resource Plan.
