Maersk Offshore Wind, a spin-off of Maersk Supply Service, has introduced plans for a state-of-the-art Offshore Wind Installation Vessel (Maersk WIV) designed to revolutionize offshore wind turbine installation processes. The vessel, set for delivery in 2025, promises to significantly reduce installation times by approximately 30% compared to conventional methods, thereby potentially lowering overall project costs for developers.
“We are establishing Maersk Offshore Wind as an independent entity to leverage our decades of offshore expertise and accelerate the development of the offshore wind industry,” said Martin Larsen, Chief Financial Officer of A P Moller Holding and Chair of Maersk Offshore Wind.
Michael Reimer Mortensen, previously Chief Commercial Officer at Maersk Supply Service, has been appointed as Chief Executive of Maersk Offshore Wind. The company, headquartered in Denmark and owned by A P Moller Holding, currently employs around 40 personnel.
Maersk Supply Service, which developed the Maersk WIV concept and has marketed it since 2018, aims to enhance operational efficiency in offshore wind projects. The vessel's design is anticipated to facilitate faster and more cost-effective deployment of offshore wind turbines, contributing to the industry's growth and sustainability goals.
