US-based solar developer-operator Emeren Group Ltd has entered into a partnership with Italian renewables firm PLT energia Srl to jointly develop a portfolio of 394 megawatts (MW) of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Italy.
In a joint press release issued on Monday, the companies announced the signing of a development service agreement (DSA) to advance five BESS projects. Specific details about the projects were not disclosed.
“This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our mission to develop innovative battery storage projects both in Italy and globally, further demonstrating our efforts to expand our BESS business,” stated Emeren Group CEO Yumin Liu.
Emeren Group has been actively expanding its presence in the Italian BESS market. Earlier developments include co-development agreements with UK fund manager Nuveen Infrastructure (formerly Glennmont Partners) for a total of 354 MW of BESS projects across Italy.
Additionally, Emeren is progressing with BESS projects for Matrix Renewables under a DSA initiated in June 2023, which involves deploying up to 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of battery capacity in Italy.
