Teesworks, operator of the UK's largest industrial zone, Teesworks, has announced ambitious plans for a new battery energy storage system (BESS) in collaboration with Energy Optimisation Solutions (EOS).
The proposed facility, slated to be constructed on a three-acre plot within the Long Acres section of the expansive 2,500-acre Teesworks site, will have a capacity of up to 100 megawatts (MW) at a total cost of GBP 62 million (USD 78.4m/EUR 73.2m).
According to Teesworks, an agreement for the construction of the BESS has been finalized with EOS, with a planning permit application currently in its final stages. The project is expected to create over 100 jobs during its approximately 12-month construction phase and aims to offset approximately 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually once operational.
“This latest agreement will further enhance Teesworks' credentials as a leading UK centre for the transition to Net Zero,” remarked Chris Musgrave, Chairman of Teesworks Ltd.
Teesworks Ltd is actively developing the Teesworks site, aiming to bolster its position as a hub for sustainable industrial growth in the UK. Earlier announcements have outlined plans for a substantial 1,000-MW/4,000-MWh BESS project in collaboration with renewables developer NatPower SA, highlighting Teesworks' commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure.
