Italian renewable energy firm Eni Plenitude SpA has marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its 50-MW Villanueva II solar farm in Torrejoncillo del Rey, Castile-La Mancha, Spain, underscoring its commitment to bolstering clean energy infrastructure.
Situated across nearly 100 hectares (247.1 acres), Villanueva II is equipped with over 76,000 photovoltaic modules and is seamlessly integrated into the national transmission grid. Eni Plenitude estimates the solar facility will generate more than 100 GWh of electricity annually, capable of powering over 30,000 households.
The project's development involved collaboration with renewables developer Zaragoza Group and engineering consultancy Solida Renewables, reflecting Eni Plenitude's strategic partnerships in advancing sustainable energy solutions.
Mariangiola Mollicone, Head of Western Europe Renewables and Managing Director of Plenitude Renewables Spain, highlighted the company's ambitious growth strategy in the renewable sector: “The development of the wind and photovoltaic sectors is key to Plenitude's global growth strategy, which aims to reach more than 4 GW of installed capacity from renewable sources by the end of 2024, scaling up to over 8 GW by 2027 and over 15 GW by 2030.”
Eni Plenitude, a subsidiary of Italian energy giant Eni SpA, currently operates approximately 430 MW of wind and solar farms across Spain, spanning regions such as Galicia, La Rioja, Catalonia, Castile-La Mancha, and Murcia. The company is also advancing projects totaling more than 1,000 MW under construction in various regions of the country, further solidifying its presence in the Spanish renewable energy landscape.
