NorSun, a Norwegian solar product manufacturer, has selected Tulsa as the site for its new $620 million silicon ingot and solar wafer production plant. This investment marks NorSun's first manufacturing facility in the United States, aimed at meeting increasing global demand for solar technology.
According to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, the facility will be located on a greenfield site spanning approximately 60 hectares (148.3 acres). Construction is scheduled to begin later this year pending regulatory approvals and final incentive agreements.
The production at the Tulsa plant is slated to commence in 2026, with potential capacity expansions to reach up to 10 GW, as outlined by government officials. Currently, NorSun operates a 1 GW factory in Norway and plans to expand it to 3 GW.
Funding for the project includes a NOK 90 million (USD 8.5 million / EUR 7.9 million) equity financing round completed last summer, led by Statkraft Ventures. This financial support underscores NorSun's strategy to strengthen its presence in the solar market and advance renewable energy goals.
The establishment of NorSun's manufacturing hub in Tulsa underscores Oklahoma's growing appeal as a destination for renewable energy investments, supported by favorable regulatory conditions and strategic partnerships.
For updates on NorSun's expansion and operational milestones in Tulsa, stakeholders are encouraged to follow developments from the company and local authorities involved in the initiative.
