Brazil’s Renewable Energy Share Climbs to 49.1% in 2023

witnessed a substantial rise in its sector in 2023, with renewables contributing 49.1% to the country's energy mix, as per the annual National Energy Balance report.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) attributed this surge to the development of wind, , and energy sources, signaling a significant milestone in Brazil's energy transition.

Although hydropower remained stable, accounting for 12% of the renewable generation, the growth in wind, solar, and biomass was particularly noteworthy.

The National Energy Balance report, jointly prepared by the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the state-owned energy firm EPE, serves as a comprehensive overview of Brazil's energy sector, highlighting key performance indicators such as energy import and export, distribution, and end-use.
