Britain's Hydrogen Utopia International PLC announced today its expectation to secure a EUR 300,000 grant (USD 321,360) for the pilot phase of a pioneering waste plastic to hydrogen facility in Ireland's County Longford.
The grant, anticipated under the EU Just Transition Fund EU Community and Enterprise Grants Scheme and co-funded by Ireland and the EU, will support HUI's unit Alister Future Technologies (AFT) Ltd upon meeting specified project milestones, the company stated.
The pilot initiative aims to validate the technology on a smaller scale, crucial for future development of a full-scale facility.
HUI, which secured the site for the Irish waste-to-hydrogen plant in March 2023, expressed optimism about the project's potential. “I am delighted to see the European Union recognise the potential of our waste plastic to hydrogen technology. Years of hard work are paying off,” commented HUI's chief executive Aleksandra Binkowska.
Specialising in converting non-recyclable mixed waste plastic into hydrogen and other carbon-free fuels, HUI is also contemplating strategic expansion through the acquisition of biofuels firm Essential Energy Holding Group Corp.
