German utility company RWE has signed a framework agreement with Siemens Gamesa to provide turbines for 1GW of onshore wind farms in Europe until 2027. The deal will make Siemens Gamesa the leading supplier of major components for RWE's project pipeline.
RWE plans to use mainly the Siemens Gamesa 5.X model with a flexible nominal output of 6.6MW to 7MW, including in its home market of Germany. The Siemens Gamesa 4.X type will also be utilized in various projects under the contract.
The agreement includes a service contract for the wind turbines, enabling RWE to perform maintenance and inspections on its own. Chief executive onshore wind and solar Europe & Australia, RWE Renewables Katja Wünschel, stated, “With this contract, RWE has secured fixed delivery dates and a structured pricing model for one giga volume. This means that the supply chain for important large-scale components of new onshore wind farms in Europe is already in place.”
Onshore chief executive of Siemens Gamesa Richard Luijendijk said, “For us at Siemens Gamesa, this agreement is important not only because of its magnitude but also because we continue to deepen our cooperation with RWE, one of our most important customers.” He added, “With this contract, we can guarantee the timely and cost-effective availability of our best-in-class technology, the Siemens Gamesa 5.X onshore platform.
