Southern Europe-focused independent power producer (IPP) marked a milestone on Tuesday with the inauguration of two plants totaling 74 MW in Cadiz province, southern Spain.

The generation complex, consisting of the Alya and Alamak solar farms situated in the municipality of Alcala de los Gazules, signifies BNZ's inaugural venture into Spain, the company announced.

Alya and Alamak were constructed by Spanish developer and engineering firm Grupotec. Notably, Grupotec had previously sold a 473-MW portfolio of solar projects in Spain to BNZ's parent group Infrastructure, formerly known as Partners, in 2021. Following that, Glennmont purchased an additional set of projects totaling 161 MW from Grupotec in 2022, though these were not intended for integration into BNZ.

Commenting on the expansion plans, BNZ expressed its ambition to deploy approximately 600 MWp in Spain by 2026. This initiative aligns with its overarching strategy to establish over 1.7 GW of solar PV installations across Southern Europe by the culmination of 2026.
