MMHE Awarded Second Subcontract by Petrofac for Offshore Wind Project in the Netherlands

Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering () has secured a second subcontract from to construct an substation (OSS) for TenneT's 2GW programme in the .

Under the terms of the agreement, MMHE will be responsible for building the topside and jacket of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) platform, known as Nederwiek 1. The topside is expected to weigh around 30,000 tonnes, including equipment, while the jacket will weigh approximately 10,000 tonnes.

The project, named the IJmuiden Ver Alpha project, will be executed by MMHE on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis. The scope of work includes construction engineering, fabrication, mechanical completion, load out, sea fastening, and architectural works.

The duration of the project is estimated to be around 36 months, with fabrication scheduled to commence in 2025 and completion targeted for 2028.

This subcontract marks MMHE's second involvement in offshore wind projects, following their initial contract secured for the IJmuiden Ver Alpha project in November 2023.

Mohd Nazir Mohd Nor, MD and CEO of MMHE, expressed satisfaction with the award, stating, “We are pleased to announce the successful award of our second offshore wind project, a subcontract to build an OSS HVDC platform, further fortifying our track record in clean energy, in supporting the global net zero ambition.”

He added, “It signifies our contribution to TenneT's significant 2GW Programme in the Netherlands, supporting the rapid development of large-scale offshore wind projects which are crucial to Europe's energy transition.”

Mohd Nor also extended gratitude to Petrofac for entrusting MMHE with the project and for their confidence in the company's abilities.
