Avangrid has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with CPS Energy, a community power provider, for a 161MW portion of Avangrid's Peñascal I wind farm in Kenedy County, Texas, the companies announced.
The agreement represents an extension and expansion of a previous 15-year agreement between the two companies, doubling CPS Energy's power offtake from the project. Now, CPS Energy will receive nearly 80% of the power generated at Peñascal I, increasing its capacity from 77MW to 161MW.
Avangrid's CEO, Pedro Azagra, highlighted the significance of the partnership in delivering clean, reliable energy to customers, emphasizing the role of collaborations in supporting the clean energy transition.
Rudy D Garza, president and CEO of CPS Energy, expressed excitement about expanding their renewable energy portfolio, aligning with their Vision 2027 goals and approved generation plan.
Peñascal I, operational since 2009, was the first wind power project on the Texas coast. With 84 turbines, it supports 16 permanent employees in the community.
