The Vole au Vent vessel, owned by Jan De Nul, has embarked on a crucial mission to kickstart the installation of foundations at the Calvados offshore wind farm in France, marking a significant step forward in renewable energy endeavors.
Ahead of commencing the drilling campaign, the vessel, measuring an impressive 140 meters in length and 41 meters in width, will undergo rigorous checks to ensure the flawless operation of its drilling machinery within the designated area of the wind farm.
In a statement issued by the consortium behind the project, consisting of EDF Renewables, EIH (a subsidiary jointly owned by Enbridge and CPP Investments), and Skyborn Renewables, it was highlighted that the Calvados offshore wind farm is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable energy initiatives. The consortium envisions a farm comprising 64 wind turbines strategically positioned more than 10 kilometers off the coast of Bessin.
“With the commissioning anticipated in the third quarter of 2025, the Calvados offshore wind farm represents a beacon of progress in our collective pursuit of clean energy solutions,” stated a spokesperson from the consortium.
The commencement of installation activities at the Calvados offshore wind farm underscores the commitment of stakeholders towards accelerating the transition to a greener future, harnessing the power of wind to drive environmental sustainability and energy independence.
