Asahi Glass Limited () and INOX Air Products () have embarked on a groundbreaking venture to introduce to India's float glass industry. The 20-year offtake agreement will supply green hydrogen to AIS' greenfield float glass facility in Soniyana, situated in Chittorgarh, .

Marking a significant stride towards sustainable glass production in India, this initiative signifies the country's first-ever green hydrogen plant dedicated to serving the float glass sector. With a capacity to generate up to 190 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, the plant is scheduled for commissioning by July 2024, with solar energy powering the electrolyser.

Under the terms of the agreement, INOXAP will oversee the design, engineering, installation, operations, and continuous supply of green hydrogen to the AIS facility for the next two decades. Initially, 95 tonnes per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen will be supplied to AIS, with the company also investing in a solar power plant to facilitate renewable energy generation for hydrogen production.

Rupinder Shelly, Chief Operating Officer of Architectural Glass at AIS, expressed the company's commitment to sustainability, stating, “Our partnership with INOXAP for green hydrogen underlines the same belief. It is a matter of immense pride that AIS' Soniyana float glass facility will be the first-ever plant in the float glass industry in India to be powered by green hydrogen.”

Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of INOXAP, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the pivotal role of green hydrogen in India's energy transition. He remarked, “Green hydrogen will play a pivotal role in India's energy transition towards de-carbonization and secure energy for our country as well as the planet.”

Jain further highlighted the government's support for green initiatives, stating, “Under the strong leadership of PM Modi, our country has laid tremendous focus on green economy, supported by a comprehensive National Green Hydrogen Mission and an ambition to make India net zero by 2070.”

This collaborative effort between AIS and INOXAP not only underscores their shared vision for a greener future but also reinforces India's position as a global leader in renewable energy adoption.
