Enel SpA revealed varied patterns in renewable power generation across its global assets during the first quarter of 2024, as outlined in the group's quarterly energy report released on Monday. The report indicates that Enel generated 32,703 GWh of renewable power worldwide, marking a 9.2% year-on-year increase.
Renewable power production experienced significant growth in Italy and Iberia, with increases of 34.1% and 27.3%, respectively. This upsurge was primarily attributed to enhanced output from hydro and solar sources compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, the Latin America market demonstrated resilience, with a notable 8.2% year-on-year increase in renewable power production. However, North America saw a marginal decline of 0.5%.
Conversely, in the Africa, Asia, and Oceania market, renewables production dropped by 41.4%. Enel clarified that this decline was mainly due to a reduction in installed capacity, resulting from transfers from consolidated to managed capacity following transactions in India and Australia.
During the first quarter, Enel installed 410 MW of new capacity, bringing its total renewables capacity to 55,793 MW by the end of the reporting period, encompassing hydro, onshore wind, geothermal, and other solar technologies.
Separately reported, Enel's installed battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity stood at 1,618 MW by the end of March, reflecting a 136.1% year-on-year growth.
