The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is inviting public feedback on the proposed construction of three solar-plus-storage projects on public lands in Nevada, the Department of Interior (DOI) agency announced.
A virtual public meeting is scheduled for May 30, as disclosed by the BLM on Friday. The primary objective of the gathering is to disseminate information pertaining to the project proposals and gather input from the public.
Collectively known as the Coaldale solar project, the three envisioned schemes will be situated approximately 35 miles (56.3km) west of Tonopah within the Battle Mountain District. Each project will be developed on public lands designated as solar variance areas and will incorporate battery energy storage systems (BESS) to enhance grid reliability.
The Coaldale solar project comprises three components: the 500-megawatt Candelaria PV park spanning 8,089 acres (3,274 ha) of public land, the 1,500-megawatt Cathedral Solar project covering 9,167 acres, and the Esmeralda North project with a planned capacity of 1,000 megawatts across 7,402 acres.
