In a significant development for the renewable energy sector, First Solar has inked an agreement to provide Birch Creek Energy with 547MW of its cutting-edge thin-film solar modules.
The St Louis-based Birch Creek Energy intends to utilize these modules in projects slated across its expansive US development pipeline.
Commenting on the collaboration, Birch Creek's Chief Executive Dan Siegel expressed satisfaction, stating, “We are pleased to establish this relationship with First Solar, which we expect will enable certainty of module supply for a critical part of our development pipeline.”
Siegel added, “By choosing to buy our modules from First Solar, we are strengthening our domestic content strategy with a trusted partner that delivers a competitive product.”
This partnership comes at a pivotal moment for First Solar, which is set to expand its Ohio footprint to over 7GW of annual nameplate capacity this year. Furthermore, the company anticipates investing over $2 billion in new manufacturing facilities in Alabama and Louisiana, scheduled to commence operations in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Additionally, First Solar is on track to commission approximately $450 million in R&D innovation infrastructure in Perrysburg, Ohio, in the latter half of this year.
