Ensinger has inked a decade-long Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with RWE, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector. The agreement revolves around the output generated by RWE's 342MW Kaskasi offshore wind farm nestled in the German North Sea.
Under this landmark deal, Ensinger, a leading plastics manufacturer headquartered in Nufringen, Baden-Württemberg, secures a substantial portion of its electricity demand, amounting to nearly 30 gigawatt hours annually, from wind power. This initiative heralds a significant stride towards environmental responsibility, as almost half of Ensinger's yearly electricity requisites will now be met through clean, renewable energy sources.
“We want to achieve our climate goals using credible means,” affirmed Klaus Ensinger, Head of Sustainability at Ensinger Group, underlining the company's commitment to sustainable practices. “That's why it was important to us that the delivery was a direct purchase from a newly installed renewable energy system.”
The PPA, structured to span over a decade, encompasses a meticulous delivery schedule synchronized with the operational dynamics of the Kaskasi wind farm. This ensures a seamless and consistent supply of renewable energy to cater to Ensinger's operational needs.
Echoing sentiments of strategic advantage, Andreas Alsfasser, Head of Technical Management at Ensinger, emphasized the allure of RWE's capability to maintain a relatively steady output of wind power. “The fact that RWE makes it possible to generate wind power at a relatively constant rate is very attractive for us,” noted Alsfasser, accentuating the strategic advantage derived from the partnership.
Moreover, Ensinger is drawn to the innovative endeavors being piloted at the Kaskasi wind farm, including the experimentation with rotor blades crafted from recyclable materials. This aligns seamlessly with Ensinger's ethos of embracing sustainable innovation to drive environmental stewardship.
Through this collaboration with RWE, Ensinger not only fortifies its renewable energy procurement strategy but also underscores its unwavering commitment towards mitigating environmental impact through tangible actions. This alliance exemplifies a paradigm shift towards sustainable energy adoption within the industrial landscape, setting a compelling precedent for corporate sustainability initiatives globally.
