Polish energy companies, Biuro Studiów, Projektów i Realizacji Energoprojekt-Katowice SA and Energopomiar Sp. z o.o., have formed a consortium and signed an agreement with PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Orsted to act as contract engineers for the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. The contract engineer's tasks include overseeing the quality and progress of work carried out by the general contractor, as well as participating in inspections, factory acceptance tests, and periodic health and safety checks.
Located in the vicinity of Osieki Lęborskie, the onshore connection infrastructure for the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm will be constructed in the municipality of Choczewo, in the Wejherowo poviat of Pomorskie. PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna's president of the management board, Wojciech Dąbrowski, stated that utilizing the potential of domestic suppliers and contractors in the supply chain for the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm is crucial for the company.
Orsted's managing director offshore Poland, Agata Staniewska-Bolesta, noted that the agreement with the consortium moves them closer to achieving their goal of providing 2.5GW of green energy for Polish households by 2030. The partnership also aligns with their commitments under the sectoral agreement for the development of offshore wind energy in Poland, with the primary objective of maximizing local content.
The two stages of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm are expected to launch by the end of the decade. This cooperation with the Polish consortium demonstrates the potential of domestic companies in large offshore wind energy investments, providing a significant boost to the country's renewable energy efforts.
