German energy group announced on Monday the initiation of onshore works for its 1-gigawatt (GW) Thor wind project in the part of the North Sea.

The cable works, scheduled to take place from mid-April to the end of October, will span between the Lemvig onshore substation and the beach south of Tuskaer. These activities will include horizontal directional drilling under the dune and a field immediately south of Tuskaer.

The subsea cables are set to be deployed and connected to the onshore cables by 2025.

The Thor offshore wind farm, situated 22 kilometers (13.68 miles) off Thorsminde, will be equipped with 72 turbines and is anticipated to be fully operational by the conclusion of 2027.

RWE launched the construction of the Thor onshore substation in May 2023, with the onshore construction work progressing as per schedule.
